Consultation - The College of Richard Collyer proposed expansion
We are seeking feedback on proposals to expand and improve the campus at The College of Richard Collyer in Horsham.
As the multi-academy trust formed by Collyer’s and The Forest School, Horsham Learning Alliance is committed to ensuring that high-quality post-16 education continues to be available for young people across the region. This consultation invites stakeholders to share their views on plans to modernise the facilities we offer and support growing student demand in the local area.
A College in High Demand
Collyer’s has a strong reputation for post-16 education across Sussex. It is widely recognised for its welcoming community, the breadth of opportunities it offers students and the high levels of achievement attained by those who study there.
In March 2025, Collyer’s was graded Outstanding in all areas for its daytime sixth form college provision. In addition, Department for Education performance data for the past two consecutive years has placed the College as the top state provider of A Levels in West Sussex.
Alongside this success, the number of students choosing Collyer’s has grown significantly. Over the past three years the College has welcomed an additional 400 students, with further demographic growth expected in the years ahead.

Proposed Campus Expansion
To support this growth, Horsham Learning Alliance has developed a long-term estates masterplan for the Collyer’s campus.
As part of this plan, we are proposing the construction of a new Tech Centre. The building would include:
- 13 new classrooms
- specialist spaces for Mathematics and Physics
- future facilities for Design Technology and Engineering
- a small library and student common room
The new building would allow Collyer’s to relocate around 400 students currently taught in temporary Portakabin classrooms while also creating capacity for an additional 450 students.
If delivered, these developments would enable the College to grow to approximately 3,200 students over the next three years.
Consultation Process
We are consulting with relevant stakeholders to understand views on these proposals.
Please note that this consultation is separate from any future planning application.
The consultation will run for three weeks:
